Last Saturday, Sep 16th, the picturesque Hotel Mesón de la Molinera in Arcos de la Frontera was the venue for the “I Arroztary Solidarity” event. Located on the shores of the peaceful Lake Arcos and with panoramic views of the town, this event, organized by the Rotary Club Jerez International, had the noble purpose of raising funds for the renovation of the pediatric oncology area of the Jerez Hospital.
The Rotary Club Sevilla International showed its commitment to charitable causes by attending in large numbers, also accompanied by their families. The day was characterized as a rice contest, and the Sevillian club managed to obtain second place with a delicious black rice, courtesy of the improvised chef and club member, Sebastián Morales, assisted in the kitchen by Carmen Lara. First place was awarded to the Rotary Club Sevilla Cartuja thanks to their “arroz del señoret”. It’s worth noting that the president of the Rotary Club Sevilla International, Fran Guillén, was part of the jury, chaired by José Antonio Aguilar, president of the Rotary Club Jerez International. The Rotary Club Estepona and Rotary Jerez also had a prominent participation in the contest, along with the previously mentioned Rotary Club Sevilla Cartuja and Rotary Club Jerez International, making a total of 5 participating clubs.
As if that weren’t enough, after lunch there was time for an impromptu musical moment, as Fran Guillén was encouraged to play the guitar and the singing was provided by Sara Soriano, member of the Rotary Club Sevilla International, and Carmen Ortega, delegate of the governor and member of the Rotary Club Jerez International.
The Rotary Club Sevilla International wishes to express its sincere thanks to the Rotary Club Jerez International for organizing this significant event, extending special recognition to the main driving force behind this event, “Selu”, a member of said club and a key piece in its coordination. It is through these initiatives that rotary clubs not only reinforce their commitment to society, but also strengthen the bonds of friendship among them.
As a demonstration of this camaraderie, Fran Guillén suggested to José Antonio Aguilar the organization of an event among clubs that share the “International” surname. Aguilar enthusiastically embraced the proposal, and both agreed to hold an initial virtual meeting between presidents via Zoom, laying the groundwork for a future face-to-face meeting.
From the Rotary Club Sevilla International, they want to highlight the importance of these events, not only for their charitable purpose, but also for their ability to promote unity, share experiences, and consolidate the rotary community. The next Arroztary is eagerly anticipated.
