On Wednesday, January 24th, the Rotary Club Sevilla International held a meeting at the Hotel Ribera de Triana, which served as the venue. Near 30 members and social change enthusiasts gathered for a lunch that promised and delivered inspiration, innovation, and a call to action for a better world.
Chaired by Fran Guillén, the president of our club, the event delved into the heart of what it means to be part of the Rotary community: a commitment to excellence and positive impact. Fran led the meeting and also shared valuable insights about MyRotary, an essential tool for connecting with other Rotary clubs and expanding our vision of the global reach of our mission.
The meeting had highlights that will resonate for a long time in the halls of our club. Dr. Vicente Salinas, a doctor and esteemed member of our community, presented PlusVitech, his company at the forefront of the fight against cancer. The presentation not only shed light on the revolutionary work his team is doing but also marked the start of an investment round, opening doors to future possibilities of significant medical advances.
Additionally, the meeting was enriched with a talk on the importance of respect for our seas, a topic of urgent relevance. The acclaimed Mexican artist Michelle López not only shared her unique perspective but also took our breath away with a mermaid-dressed performance, a powerful artistic representation that underscored her message of marine conservation. Moreover, an auction of one of the artist’s works was held, reaching €500 for a social project in Mexico, and the artist donated two of her works to the club for future raffles for social projects.
The vice president and chair of the projects committee, Luis Prieto, delved into the current projects the club is undertaking, such as supporting the AFAR Association, to help homeless people, and the Mar Pozo Association For the smile of a child, to alleviate the pain of children with cancer, reaffirming our ongoing commitment to community action and child welfare. In addition, Rafa Casal introduced us to the start of the social impact accelerator, highlighting the presentation of pioneering initiatives such as Pilar Álvarez’s project on elder care and Álvaro Domínguez and Nefta Nervo’s project on supporting children with ADHD through gaming.
Sebastián Morales, treasurer and responsible for exchanges, explained the Rotary exchanges and introduced a young person who will go on an international exchange through our Rotary club. For those interested in joining our cause, Miguel Treviño offered enlightening guidance on how to become a member, emphasizing the open door we always have for those who wish to make a difference.
This event was not just a meeting; it was a celebration of what we can achieve when innovation meets dedication. At the Rotary Club Sevilla International, we are proud to lead by example, fostering a space where the passion for positive change can flourish. As we move forward, we remain inspired by the words and deeds of our members and guest speakers, reminding us of the power of community in building a better future for all.
