On Monday, February 12, 2024, the Rotary Club Sevilla International made a visit to the headquarters of the AFAR Association in Alcalá de Guadaíra, marking a day dedicated to solidarity and support for homeless people. This event stood out not only for the active participation of numerous Rotary club members but also for the delivery of significant contributions that promise to make a real difference in the community.
In a symbolic gesture of fraternity and recognition, Fran Guillén handed the club’s banner to Father Manuel Ángel, founder of AFAR, consolidating the relationship between our organization and the association. This delivery represents not only respect and admiration for the work of AFAR but also the continuous commitment of the Rotary Club Sevilla International to support the AFAR Association.
In a gesture of generosity and commitment to education and personal development, Miguel Treviño, a distinguished member of our club, delivered 50 free online training courses. These courses are designed to offer AFAR users valuable tools for their professional growth, opening doors to new opportunities in the future.
Furthermore, in collaboration with the Rotary Club Jerez International, organized by its member José Manuel Fernández Baratech with the Lectio Rotario project, about 300 books were pledged to enrich the library of the AFAR center, which many of its users utilize daily. This joint effort not only underscores the importance of reading and continuous learning but also strengthens the support network between Rotary clubs and the charitable organizations we work to support.
The event was also an opportunity to share and connect, organizing a lunch with the center’s users. This moment allowed club members and AFAR beneficiaries to interact and get to know each other better, creating a space of empathy and mutual understanding.
The day culminated with an artistic and enjoyable expression. Fran Guillén, the club president, along with Sara Soriano singing and Luis Prieto, the club vice-president, on the cajón, improvised a guitar and singing performance that filled the atmosphere with emotion and culture. Music, universally known for its power to unite people, served as the perfect close to a day full of meaningful activities.
Looking to the future, a joint event was planned to raise funds for AFAR, where some users will have the opportunity to share their testimonies on how the association has helped them overcome their difficult personal situations. This initiative aims not only to raise vital funds for the continuation of AFAR’s work but also to give a voice to those whose lives have been transformed by their assistance.
This event at the AFAR Association is a tangible example of the positive impact we can achieve when we come together for a common cause. At the Rotary Club Sevilla International, we are proud to lead and participate in activities that promote social change and community support. We remain committed to our mission of serving others and making a difference in the world, one action at a time.
